My Essential Packing List

We all know the basic necessities to bring on a trip—a phone charger, a toothbrush, a hairbrush, etc. What do you bring when you’re low on space and already have the necessities packed? What skin care items are ‘essential’? Where do you start with clothing?

I’m sharing my essential packing list in skin care, hair, and clothing when you’re low on space and only your favorites can make the cut.

Skin Care
Keeping to your skin care routine is important regardless of location. While I have a condensed skin care routine compared to those I’ve seen lately on TikTok, I manage to pack every wash, cream, and lotion I use on a daily basis. (And don’t forget the sunscreen!)

On my essential skin care list, you’ll find the following:

  • Cetaphil Face Wash (travel size)

  • Cetaphil Daily Face Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15

  • CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum

  • CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

Hair
I find myself cutting down the most on the hair products I bring because I hate lugging around more than necessary. On the top of my list, you’ll find a curling iron because I can get 2-3 days out of one style. I hate packing shampoo and using hotel products, so dry shampoo is also a must.

On my essential hair list, you’ll find the following:

  • Curling iron

  • Hair spray (travel size)

  • Dry shampoo (travel size)

Clothing
We’ve all seen the meme about wearing the same shirt for four days while at home, but packing four outfits a day while on vacation. I get it, it can be intimating to cut down on packed clothing. That’s why I follow the principle of lightweight, neutral shirts to layer and pair with any outfit. I also pack a jean or leather jacket to layer. While the number of items I bring depends on the length of the trip, I still don’t deprive myself of options while packing.

On my essential clothing list, you’ll find the following:

  • 4-5 neutral shirts/sweaters/tank tops/tees

  • 2-3 pairs of pants

  • 2 pairs of neutral-colored shoes (i.e., tennis shoes and heels, booties, or Dr. Martens)

  • A coat (Make it fit! Not being prepared for cold weather can ruin a trip. I’ve been there!)

  • One hat (Yes, hats are my personal style staple, but seriously, they are cute and help cover hair that hasn’t been washed in a few days.)

Did I forget anything you think is essential? What’s on your list? Leave a comment and let me know.
